I was invited to attend Chronixx live show at the O2 Academy Brixton, on Sunday 28th May. The final night of his UK Chronology tour.
Walking through the streets of Brixton to get to the venue in that moment felt like I was walking through the streets of the Caribbean, the aura, the smell of food, everything. A jerk stop casually parked on the side of the road and many others selling an assortment of fruit punch, horns and flags just waiting to grab the attention of the concert goers before the show started.
With no supporting acts, just one man and his band, Zincefence Redemption (the DJ) kept the audience engaged with old school and new reggae music, which had people on their feet until the man himself arrived to the stage a short while later.
Opening the show at 11:15pm Chronixx came to the stage performing many of his hits including Smile Jamaica, Here Comes Trouble, Who Knows (a Protoje song he was featured on) and a few of his new releases such as Likes.
Mid-show he brought out a dancer and they both went head to head with a short routine which then concluded with the dancer stealing the spotlight for a short moment.
Wrapping up the show and still fuelled with energy Chronixx jumped off the stage to greet his London fans. Handshakes and fist bumps consumed him, from people front row and center excited about being able to see him up close and personal.
Finally he went back on stage saying thank you to all who came out and left us with a brief message about what Reggae and Dancehall music means to him.
